how long will it take for 50% of a sample of 131i to decay

let us start by defining what a half life is?
 A half life is the time taken for the mass of a radioactive sample to decay by half of its original mass/ volume/energy.
 In other words half life is the time taken for the 50% of the mass of any radioactive sample to decay,
 Therefore for iodine-131 to decay by 50 percent, we just need one halflife and halflife is 8.02  days . therefore it will take 8.02 days for it to ecay by 50 percent.
 But how much is 0.02 days
If
1days = 24hrs =
0.02days = x
Xdays = 24 * 0.02
=0.48hrs
0.48hrs = 0.48 * 60 minutes
28.8 minutes
 And how much is
0.8 minutes
0.8 minutes = 0.8 * 60 seconds
= 48 seconds

 Therefore
It will take 8 days and 28 minutes and 48 seconds  for 50% of the sample of iodine-131 to be lost.
