what is the main reason that people are hesitant to use nuclear energy

people are hesitating to use nuclear energy despite its cheap energy : it is due to fear of nuclear accident and   mismanagement  of nuclear waste. these wastes are dangerous and if not properly managed can destroy human and animal  environment.

 high cost of building and maintenance in terms of human and capital resources is also a major turn off. a typical nuclear plant will take atleast a period of 5-10 years to build while maintenance will require  high grade professionals.

 they can be  a target for terrorist and militant, if a country is not having a high class security building a nuclear plant will only spell doom for the nation.

they fear of developing nuclear weapon is also another challenge, the technology for building nuclear weapons and nuclear energy is almost the same, it only the end product that differs, therefore that fear that country can easily deviate from a nuclear energy state to a nuclear power state is not unfounded.

 therefore the greatest reason people abhor nuclear energy is due to high cost of building and maintenance , fear of accident due to natural disaster or terrorist attack on nuclear facility and the consequence of nuclear wastes.
