What is the object distance

object distance is the distance between the object and the principal focus or the centre of the mirror or lens. The position of object determine the type of image formed on both mirror and lenses. Plane mirror has their object distance between distance equal to their image distance, convex lens  has same type of image no matter the position of the object. While concave mirror has varying images depending on the position of the object. Diverging lens as same type of images no matter the position of the images while converging lens has varying images depending on the object distance.
