what is the significance of the neutron proton ratio

neutron to proton ratio determine the stability of stability of a isotope, a ration less than 1, means that the atom has more protons than neutrons in its nucleus and hence unstable. when the ratio is a unity, the number of protons and neutrons are equal and hence if the  atom is a light , the atom will be stable , but if the atom is heavy it will not be stable because of the effect of coulomb repulsive force between the protons.
if the ratio is greater than one , the atom is remarkably stable
and is likely a heavy nuclides .
