Is proton a nuclear particle?
This question
look confusing bearing in mind that a proton is a nucleon and belong to the
nucleus, should it be called a nuclear particle?
In general the proton is classified as a
subatomic particle, both it and neutron are known as subatomic particles. Therefore
the best term used in describing them are the subatomic particles or nucleon
and not nuclear particles.
In fields like nuclear and particle physics (high
energy physics) they should be referred to as nuclear constituent, nucleons or baryons
and not as subatomic particles. Baryons meaning they are made up of quarks
only.
