fission definition

Nuclear fission is the splitting of a heavy nucleus into smaller ones, it can be spontaneous(natural) or induced( artificial decay). If the process is natural it is called radioactivity and involves emission of either alpha, beta ,positron or gamma but if the process involves the
Splitting of a heavier atoms into two smaller unequal or un-identical atom, it is a nuclear fission reaction and is accompanied by tremendous liberation of energy.  It occur in a device called nuclear reactor.

The controlled version of this device is used to produce electricity while the uncontrolled version is the fission bomb.
