why is half life useful to an archaeologist

half life is the time taken for half the mass of a radioactive sample to decay,  when compared with other stable isotopes , it it make it possible  to predict the age of ancient object.
archeologist, uses radiocarbon dating  to predict the age of organic object,  since both plant and animal have same proportion of carbon-12 and arbon-14 in their body, when  a plant or animal dies the intake of both isotopes of carbon stops and he decay of carbon-14 starts, the variations between the proportion of the carbons in living and death is ten used to ascertain the age of objects.
