what effect does nuclear radiation have on atoms

a nuclear reaction has two types of effects on atom, when emitted by the atom  ,it creates news atoms, or new isotopes, isotones of same atoms, for example, alpha decay creates new atoms, beta also creates new isotopes but  electron capture and positron emission creates isobars.
