When atoms are split from which part of the atom is the energy released

When an atom split , the energy is released from the nucleus, we have two part in an atom, the nucleus and the cloud of electrons,  energy released as a result of fission or fusion are called nuclear energy, meaning from the nucleus of the atom.  This energy is tremendous and million times greater than that produce from same mass in chemical reaction.
