why do images produced by two opposing flat mirrors appear to be progressively smaller

the image formed from  an opposing flat mirrors are progressively smaller because, the distance between the two images formed are further apart, each time a new image is formed the lat image is is two times further away from it,  in a plane mirror the object distance and image distance are equal,  each time a new image is formed , its therefore two times away from the last image formed,
object further away appear smaller  than those that are closer , sun and star in the “ sky” appear smaller ; like a ball but in reality they are bigger than the earth.
