How Does Light Behave When It Interacts With Matter

when light interact with matter, part of it is absorbed, part of is reflected and part of it is transmitted depending on the property of the mater.  when a matter interact with light it behave in three ways as transparent, opaque or translucent body, a transparent body will transmit  all the spectrum of the white light, an opaque body will absorb all spectrum while a translucent will scatter the light.
color of  objects affect their  behavior toward light , when an object reflects all the colors of light it becomes whites, when an object reflect absorb all colors of light it appears black, when an object absorb all but reflect either red, blue, or green colors it appears red, blue or green respectively.  simply matters appear the color of light they reflect. this is why black object are hotter than other color when expose to sunlight.
