what is e=mc2 used for

e=mc2, is used in calculating energy when a mass is destroyed.  e is the energy released , m is the mass destroyed while c is the speed of light, 3 x 108m/s. the energy calculated could be binding energy of nucleons, nuclear energy released in nuclear weapon,  energy released in a nuclear power plant for electricity generation or for calculating for calculating binding energy per nucleon.
