Extensive property, a thermodynamic
property is said to an extensive if its magnitude depend on the size or amount
of the system. Example volume, mass,
internal energy ,enthalpy, entropy, number of moles etc, here the larger
the size of the system the more the
magnitude of the above proprerties.
Intensive property, a thermodynamic property is said to be
intensive if its magnitude is independent of the size or amount of the system
under study, example of extensive properties are , temperature, pressure, density, molar mass, expansion coefficient,
.an increase in size of the system does not alter the magnitude of the above
properties.
Homogenous and heterogeneous system
A system is said to be
homogenous if its properties does not change when different part measured. It
has a uniform property and it is called single phase system.
A system is said to be heterogeneous
if its measured property varies when measured from different part, it has
non-uniform property and is said to be multiple –phase system.
