Half life of
a radionuclide is the time taken for a
given mass to disintegrate by half of
its original mass. It is the time in which a radioactive material decays to
half of the number of atoms at time , t=o.
According to
the law of radioactivity, the rate of
decay is proportional to the original number.
the decay constant is
the proportionality between the amount
of radioactive atoms and the rate at
which it disintegrates.
