why does the sky sometimes appear whitish?

the sky appear whitish as a result of scattering all frequency of light, when there are dust particles in  the atmosphere , or in order  word where the atmosphere contains a lot of particles such as dust and dirt larger then the oxygen and nitrogen atoms, light of lower frequencies is also scattered strongly - producing a whitish sky
